President of the Ghana Football Association and CAF 2nd Vice-President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has officially opened the CAF Medical Commission meeting in Lomé, calling for greater emphasis on player welfare and medical excellence across African football.

Representing CAF President Patrice Motsepe, Okraku used the platform to stress the importance of strengthening healthcare systems within the sport, urging member associations to prioritise modern medical practices and collaboration.

The meeting brought together leading medical professionals and football administrators from across the continent, including Ghana’s Prince Pambo, to deliberate on improving medical structures and safeguarding players at all levels of the game.

Okraku highlighted the need for continuous capacity building, noting that football’s growth must go hand in hand with advancements in sports medicine and player care.

His presence in Lomé also forms part of a wider schedule of engagements within the region. The GFA president recently participated in a FIFA consultative meeting in Côte d’Ivoire focused on shaping the next phase of the FIFA Forward Programme.

Additionally, his visit coincided with the CAF Zone West-B Team Managers Training Seminar, an initiative aimed at strengthening administrative and technical capacity within the sub-region.
