Kumasi City Marathon Launched Ahead of Historic 2026 Debut
The 2026 maiden edition of the Kumasi City Marathon has officially been launched in Kumasi, marking a significant step in promoting sports tourism and healthy living in Ghana.
The event, expected to attract professional, amateur runners and disability people, it is designed to showcase the rich culture and vibrant streets of the Garden City while encouraging fitness and community participation.
Organizers highlighted that the marathon will feature multiple race categories, making it accessible to a wide range of participants.
Key stakeholders, including local authorities and sports enthusiasts, have expressed optimism that the marathon will boost tourism in Kumasi.
Some of the objectives are to discover and nurture long-distance running talent in Ghana
The initiative also aligns with broader efforts to position Kumasi as a hub for major sporting events, complementing Ghana’s growing reputation in athletics.
Speaking at the launch Clenard Bawa Adayina who is the event director emphasized the importance of such initiatives in developing our grassroots sports and through this event
The Kumasi City Marathon is anticipated to become an annual event, adding to Ghana’s growing calendar of major sporting activities.
The main event is set to take place on 6th June, 2026 in Kumasi.
