Ghana women’s national team head coach Kim Lars Björkegren says the months leading up to the next CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will be dedicated to fine-tuning his squad and expanding his talent pool ahead of their title charge.

The Black Queens impressed at the last WAFCON earlier this year, finishing third after a spirited campaign. With roughly five months left before the next edition kicks off, Björkegren believes the team is on an upward trajectory but insists there is still crucial work to be done.

“It’s almost five months or so to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, so of course we need to watch some players,” the Swedish tactician noted. “We are very happy with our squad right now. We are feeling that for every camp, we are moving in the right direction. We are doing better and better and better, and I think that almost all people can see that as well. We are taking good steps.”

The head coach emphasised that maintaining momentum will require targeted improvements, particularly in the team’s tactical discipline and technical execution.

“But we always want to be better so we are going to take a look at the details, what can we improve, what can we do better in a football way,” he added. “But also like I said to watch players both in Ghana in the local market and also abroad.”

With preparations intensifying, the Black Queens are setting their sights firmly on going two steps further than their previous campaign as they aim to capture continental supremacy at the upcoming tournament.
