Joseph Paul Amoah Targets Gold as Ghana Relay Team Reaches Championship Final
Joseph Paul Amoah has declared that Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team is fully focused on retaining its continental crown after securing qualification to the final of the African Senior Athletics Championships.
The Ghanaian quartet booked their place in the final following an impressive performance during the heats at the University of Ghana Stadium, where they topped their race with a strong display of speed and coordination.
Competing in front of an energetic home crowd, the team crossed the finish line in 38.69 seconds to seal automatic qualification and reinforce their status as one of the favourites for the gold medal.
Following the race, Amoah made Ghana’s ambitions clear, insisting the team’s objective goes beyond simply reaching the final.
“The goal is to win the ultimate. We’re the defending champions and we’re here to defend it,” Amoah said.
Ghana entered the competition carrying momentum after recently securing qualification for the 2027 World Athletics Championships at the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone.
The relay squad continues to rely on experienced athletes including Amoah and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, who have played central roles in the country’s recent relay success on the continental stage.
Despite strong competition expected from nations such as Nigeria, South Africa and Botswana, confidence remains high within the Ghanaian camp ahead of the final.
With home supporters firmly behind them, Ghana’s relay team will now aim to deliver another standout performance as they chase gold on home soil.
