Vision FC technical director, Annor Walker, has issued a passionate appeal to referees in Ghana to raise the bar of officiating in the Ghana Premier League in order to preserve the integrity and credibility of the competition.

His remarks come on the back of growing scrutiny around refereeing standards in the domestic top flight, with multiple clubs and coaches expressing dissatisfaction with decisions that appear to tilt the balance unfairly.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, the veteran tactician, who has managed clubs like Accra Great Olympics, voiced concern over what he described as the negative impact of questionable officiating decisions on match outcomes.

“Our referees, some of the things they do don’t help the game. If they can change their conduct small, it will help,” Walker stated.

“Sometimes you as a coach, you prepare your team and know that this team can’t beat me but the referees do somethings that turn the result against you. There is nothing you can do.”

The Ghana Premier League has, over the years, battled persistent complaints about officiating inconsistencies, prompting calls for structural reforms, enhanced training, and the use of modern technology where feasible.

Walker’s call adds to a chorus of voices urging the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Referees’ Association of Ghana to intensify efforts to professionalize the sector and instil greater accountability among match officials.
