The Golden Palms of Ghana have successfully defended their title at the WBSC Africa Youth Baseball5 Championships, reaffirming their dominance in the sport across the continent.

The tournament, hosted by South Africa Baseball, was held at the Western Cape Sports School in Cape Town from January 8 to 12, 2025.

Ghana’s Golden Palms showcased their excellence by defeating hosts South Africa with decisive scores of 9:4 and 7:3, securing a spot in the finals. They then overcame a resilient Kenyan team, triumphing 5:5 and 8:5 to claim the championship.

This victory follows their historic maiden win in Cape Coast, and the team entered the tournament with high expectations.

The journey to the championship was not without challenges. Financial constraints delayed their arrival in Cape Town, forcing coaches and captains to take on additional duties.

Led by Head Coach Daniel Yaw Atiemo and Assistant Coach Daniel Obeng Asiamah, the team turned setbacks into stepping stones, showing grit and resilience that ultimately paid off.

The Ghana Baseball and Softball Federation expressed gratitude to stakeholders who played pivotal roles in the team’s success.

“Their triumph is a testament to their hard work and the unwavering support of the Government, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Sports Authority, the Ghana Olympic Committee, and the Eastern, Central, and Volta Regional Chapters,” the Federation stated. “Special thanks go to President Ernest Danso and the entire executive team for their sacrifices.”

The Golden Palms now set their sights on the Baseball5 World Championships in Mexico, where they will compete against the world’s best
