NSA Boss Calls for Investment in Draughts as Dansoman Hosts Clash of the Titans Tournament
Dansoman has come alive with excitement as the Clash of the Titans Draught Tournament 2025 got underway on Sunday, September 21, with the competition set to climax in a grand finale on Monday, September 22.
The opening day treated fans to a blend of suspense, skill, and mental dexterity, leaving the community eagerly anticipating the final showdown between Michael Abu, popularly known as Abu National, and Theophilus Quaye, widely referred to as Nii Ayi Chameleon. The pair, two of the most respected names in Ghana’s draughts fraternity, will battle for supremacy in what promises to be a memorable finale.
In attendance was Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), who hailed the Dansoman Draughts Association for organizing the competition. He expressed his admiration for the quality of play and underscored the importance of investing in draughts.
“First of all, I will congratulate the Dansoman Draughts Association for organizing this Draughts Competition. What I have seen here today has lifted my spirits. It has really been an eye opener. We should invest more in draughts as a sport because it does not cost much to invest in it. If we invest in this sport, we can go to the world championship. It falls under recreation and sports too. It requires concentration, analytical mind, critical thinking and decision making so I will encourage the youth to join the playing of draughts,” Ampofo Ankrah said.

He further suggested that the sport could be linked with national development strategies, drawing inspiration from the government’s proposed economic framework.
“The manifesto of the current government talks about the 24-hour economy. So apart from daytime, the youth can partake in draughts under light with a bit of entertainment. This will prevent them from involving themselves in crimes. We just need to invest,” he added.
With the grand finale on the horizon, all eyes will be on Abu National and Nii Ayi Chameleon as they lock horns for the 2025 title, capping off what has been a landmark tournament for the Dansoman community and Ghanaian draughts at large.
