The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially ended its negotiations with Chinese broadcaster StarTimes over the renewal of its media broadcast rights agreement, citing an inability to reach mutually agreeable terms.

In a statement released on Thursday, the GFA disclosed that talks with StarTimes were discontinued in March 2025, with both parties failing to arrive at an extension deal. The previous agreement between the two organisations concluded at the end of the 2023/24 football season.

Following the collapse of negotiations, the GFA has officially notified StarTimes of the termination and is now pursuing the recovery of an outstanding payment of USD 842,173.36. This amount remains due under the terms of the now-expired agreement.”

The Association further revealed that it has engaged legal counsel and commenced formal procedures to recover the owed funds.

This development marks a significant shift in the GFA’s ongoing efforts to redefine the media landscape for Ghanaian football, as it looks to attract new partners who can enhance the visibility, accessibility, and commercial appeal of local competitions.

The end of the long-standing partnership with StarTimes raises questions about the future broadcast strategy for the Ghana Premier League and other domestic competitions. The GFA is expected to issue further communication regarding new broadcast arrangements in the coming weeks.
