GFA Charges Four Berekum Chelsea Players for Misconduct After FA Cup Semi-Final
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially charged four Berekum Chelsea players for misconduct following their behavior in the aftermath of the MTN FA Cup semi-final match against Asante Kotoko at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa.
The players — Mizack Afriyie, Stephen Amankona, Zakaria Fuseini, and Seidu Mohammed — are accused of violating Article 12(1)(i) of the GFA Disciplinary Code (2019) and Article 34(6)(d) of the Premier League Regulations (2019), relating to improper conduct and bringing the game into disrepute.
According to a statement issued by the GFA, the disciplinary charges stem from the players’ alleged aggressive and confrontational approach toward match officials after Berekum Chelsea’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Asante Kotoko — a result that saw the Porcupine Warriors book their spot in the final of the prestigious domestic cup.
“It is alleged that after the match, the players approached the referees in an aggressive, angry, and fierce manner, using inappropriate gestures which constitute misconduct,” the statement read.
The four players have been given until Thursday, May 15, 2025, to respond in writing to the charges laid against them.
Should they be found guilty, the sanctions could range from fines to suspensions or both, which could impact Berekum Chelsea’s squad availability in their remaining matches of the Ghana Premier League season.
