Emmanuel Annor Slams GFA Over Fine for Religious Goal Celebration

Nations FC forward Emmanuel Annor has publicly criticized the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after receiving a fine for displaying a religious message during a recent Ghana Premier League match.

The striker, who scored against Asante Kotoko in Matchday 26, celebrated his goal by lifting his shirt to reveal an undershirt bearing the words, “I belong to Jesus.” This act prompted the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee to fine him GHS 500, citing a breach of the association’s rules prohibiting the display of religious or political messages during matches.

Annor was also given a formal warning, with the GFA indicating that repeat offenses could attract more severe consequences.

In a bold response posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Annor questioned the fairness of the decision and what he called “double standards” in football’s disciplinary practices.

“Why can football players celebrate LGBTQ+ sexuality but not their love for Christ?” he wrote.

He further reinforced his stance by quoting scripture:

“If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord” — Romans 14:8.

Annor concluded his post with a powerful declaration:

“It’s the Kingdom’s work on the pitch!”

The GFA’s decision has sparked debate on social media, with supporters of the striker praising his courage to publicly affirm his faith, while others have urged the football governing body to revisit its stance on expressions of belief.
