Frederick Asare Set to Exit Asante Kotoko After Contract Runs Out in June 2025
Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare is set to leave the club at the end of the current season when his contract expires in June 2025, marking the end of a three-year association with the Porcupine Warriors.
The 25-year-old shot-stopper has fallen out of favour this campaign, losing his place to Guinean international Mohammed Camara, who has emerged as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. Despite attempts by the club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) to extend his stay, talks broke down over financial terms.
Asare joined Kotoko in 2022 on a free transfer after a successful spell at Accra Lions, where he played a key role in helping the team gain promotion to the Ghana Premier League in 2021.
During his stint with Kotoko, Asare’s playing time has been inconsistent. In the current 2024/25 season, he has made just 15 appearances in the Ghana Premier League, keeping seven clean sheets and conceding 12 goals.
Although he received his first call-up to the Ghana senior national team in 2023, the goalkeeper is yet to make his debut for the Black Stars. His limited minutes at club level in recent months have also hindered his national team prospects.
According to sources close to the player, Asare is already exploring his options, with interest reportedly coming from clubs in East Africa and Europe ahead of the summer transfer window. A move abroad could offer the former Lions man the regular game time he desires as he looks to revive his club and international career.
Asante Kotoko are expected to begin their search for a new backup goalkeeper should Asare’s exit be confirmed officially in the coming weeks.
