George Afriyie Alleges Unfair Tactics by Kurt Okraku in 2023 GFA Elections
Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has accused GFA President Kurt Okraku of employing unfair methods to exclude him from the 2023 elections.
In a recent interview, Afriyie claimed that Okraku manipulated the electoral process to ensure he faced no competition during his re-election bid.
“Kurt made sure that in the election of 2023, I wouldn’t be part,” Afriyie alleged. “Before nominations were opened, Kurt sent documents to every club owner to endorse him before the nominations.” He said on Asempa FM.
According to Afriyie, this strategy discouraged clubs from backing any other candidates.
“The election committee members were close associates of Kurt Okraku, and they were determined to prevent me from contesting in the elections,” Afriyie added, suggesting bias within the committee tasked with overseeing the electoral process.
Afriyie’s claims have reignited calls for transparency in GFA electoral processes, as stakeholders demand accountability and fairness in the administration of football in Ghana.
