Amaju Pinnick Intervened to Stop Me from Filing Court Injunction on GFA Elections – George Afriyie
Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has disclosed that GFA President Kurt Okraku brought former Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) President Amaju Pinnick to Ghana to persuade him not to file an injunction against the 2023 GFA elections.
The revelation highlights the high stakes and intense negotiations behind the scenes of the 2023 GFA elections, a process that has faced criticism for alleged irregularities and lack of transparency.
In an interview with Asempa FM, Afriyie explained that he initially ignored attempts by Okraku to contact him over the matter.
“Kurt brought Amaju Pinnick to Ghana to speak to me to prevent me from placing an injunction on the elections. I wasn’t answering Kurt’s calls, but the sports minister, Mustapha Ussif also pleaded with me to meet Amaju,” Afriyie revealed.
After agreeing to the meeting, Afriyie said he decided to take a different approach to address his concerns about the election process.
“I met Amaju, and after considering his advice, I decided not to go to court. Instead, I chose to take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS),” he explained.
