Asante Kotoko have confirmed the appointment of seasoned South African tactician Eric Tinkler as the club’s new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season, with the experienced manager taking charge immediately.

The Porcupine Warriors have entrusted Tinkler with leading the club into a new era as they seek domestic success and a stronger presence in continental competitions.

Tinkler arrives in Kumasi boasting more than 30 years of experience in top-level football, both as a player and a coach.

His managerial career has seen him oversee some of South Africa’s biggest clubs, including Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, Cape Town City, Maritzburg United and Bidvest Wits.

Among his notable achievements are guiding Orlando Pirates to the CAF Champions League final and leading SuperSport United to the CAF Confederation Cup final. He also captured several domestic trophies, including the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout.

Before moving into coaching, Tinkler enjoyed an accomplished playing career. He captained South Africa, earned 48 international caps, represented Bafana Bafana at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and was part of the squad that lifted the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations. His club career also took him to England, Italy and Portugal, where he featured for Barnsley, Cagliari and Vitória de Setúbal.

Kotoko believe the appointment underlines the club’s determination to establish a strong technical structure capable of challenging for honours both in Ghana and across Africa.

Tinkler will work alongside Director of Football Stanley Menzo Purl as part of the club’s long-term football development strategy.

Board Chairman James Osei Brown welcomed the arrival of the South African, expressing confidence in his ability to drive the club forward.

“Eric brings a wealth of experience, discipline and winning pedigree to our technical bench. His track record of developing players and delivering results at the highest level in African football makes him the right man to lead our team at this important time,” Brown said.

Speaking after signing his contract, Tinkler described the opportunity as a privilege and pledged to build a team capable of meeting the club’s high expectations.

“I am honoured and excited to join one of Africa’s most storied football institutions. Asante Kotoko’s rich history, passion for success and ambition for development is well known across the continent. I look forward to working with the players, staff and management to build a team that can compete and win both at home and on the continental stage,” he said.

Kotoko supporters will now hope Tinkler’s vast experience and proven leadership can inspire a successful 2026/27 season as the club pursues major honours once again.
