Black Stars midfielder Elisha Owusu has expressed excitement over Ghana’s upcoming international friendlies, describing them as an important measuring stick ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Ghana are scheduled to face European giants Germany and Austria in March before concluding their pre-tournament preparations with a clash against co-hosts Mexico in May, a run of fixtures Owusu believes will sharpen the team’s readiness for the global showpiece.

“It’s really good to face top teams. It shows us where we are and gives us a chance to compete at a high level. I really like that challenge,” Owusu said in an interview with Ligue 1, quoted by Flashscore.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who could be making his second World Cup appearance, also reiterated Ghana’s ambition to make a significant impact at the tournament, stressing that the Black Stars are not travelling merely to make up the numbers.

“Our main goal is to go far in the World Cup and to show the world that African football is feared. We won’t go there just to participate; we want to perform with all humility and show the world what Ghana can do.”

With preparations intensifying and elite opponents lined up, Ghana will be hoping the upcoming fixtures provide the perfect platform to fine-tune tactics and build momentum ahead of their World Cup campaign.
