Two of Ghana’s most celebrated football clubs, Asante Kotoko SC and Accra Hearts of Oak, have jointly announced their commitment to addressing the growing security concerns within the Ghana Premier League.

In a collaborative move, the clubs have prepared a detailed position paper for submission to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), emphasizing the need for enhanced safety measures at match venues across the country.

In a strategic meeting held in Accra, Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) and members of the Hearts of Oak Board discussed pivotal issues affecting the league.

Their unified efforts aim to ensure that incidents like the recent tragedy involving the death of Nana Pooley, a devoted Asante Kotoko supporter, are never repeated.

The position paper, set to be presented to the GFA’s Executive Committee on Thursday, February 6, 2025, outlines comprehensive recommendations, including:

  • Enhanced security protocols at league venues.
  • Greater collaboration between stakeholders to safeguard fans, players, and officials.
  • Proactive measures to address hooliganism and ensure that football remains an enjoyable experience for all.

Hearts of Oak expressed solidarity with Kotoko during this difficult time, offering assurances that Nana Pooley’s death will not be in vain.

The clubs have urged the GFA to act decisively by adopting the recommendations outlined in their position paper.
