Bibiani GoldStars Begin Title Defense Against Bechem United at Dun’s Park
Reigning Ghana Premier League champions Bibiani GoldStars will begin their title defense with a home clash against Bechem United at Dun’s Park in Matchday One of the 2025/26 season.
As champions, the Miners know the pressure will be greater this term, with every opponent determined to unsettle them. Their preparations have therefore focused not only on reinforcing the squad but also on raising performance levels to meet the heightened challenge of defending their crown.
GoldStars head into the new campaign with significant changes, having lost several key players from last season. However, the club responded by investing in young and exciting prospects to refresh the team as they aim to retain their league title and make a mark on the continental stage.
Their preseason offered mixed fortunes. The Green-Yellows triumphed in the GHALCA Top Four tournament, defeating Hearts of Oak and Heart of Lions on penalties before coming from behind to beat Asante Kotoko 2-1 — their only victory in open play. Despite that success, they narrowly missed out on a third consecutive trophy, losing to Kotoko in the much-anticipated “Champion of Champions” clash at home.
Bechem United, meanwhile, arrive in Bibiani brimming with confidence after a strong preseason. The Hunters were active in the transfer market, securing the services of Frank Amankwah, Nigerian international Frank Promise Ekeamadi, experienced left-back Emmanuel Ampiah, and former Manchester City attacker Aminu Mohammed, among others.
Their form in the Sompa Invitational tournament underlined their readiness. Bechem United won all three matches against Premier League sides Aduana Stars, Berekum Chelsea, and Karela United, finishing the competition with nine points and an impressive goal difference of +6, scoring eight and conceding just two.
With GoldStars looking to consolidate their status as champions and Bechem United eager to upset them on the opening weekend, fans at Dun’s Park can expect an intense battle between two well-prepared sides.
