Cercle Brugge Sporting Director, Rembert Vromant, has praised Ghanaian midfielder Lawrence Agyekum after the club completed his permanent transfer from Austrian side RB Salzburg.

Agyekum, 21, impressed the Belgian Pro League outfit during a successful loan stint and has now signed a long-term deal until 2029.

Speaking after the announcement, Vromant expressed satisfaction with the deal, pointing to Agyekum’s adaptability and technical proficiency as key reasons behind the decision to trigger his buyout clause.

“We are pleased to have exercised the option in Lawrence’s contract,” Vromant stated. “He is a versatile midfielder with technical qualities that fit well into our playing style. We have great faith in his further development and look forward to the coming seasons together.”

Agyekum featured in 44 matches during his loan spell, scoring two goals and assisting two more, becoming a regular fixture in the club’s midfield. His consistent performances earned him his maiden senior call-up for Ghana in March, further enhancing his reputation.

The former WAFA SC graduate had reportedly attracted interest from French Ligue 1 clubs Strasbourg and FC Nantes, but chose to stay in Belgium where he has cemented a starting role under Cercle’s tactical setup.

Agyekum’s permanent move is seen as a statement of intent by Cercle Brugge as they continue building a competitive squad around young and promising talent. His development will be closely watched by Ghanaian fans, who see him as a potential midfield mainstay for the Black Stars.
