Ghana’s U-15 national side, the Black Comets, continued their strong showing in the boys’ category of the ongoing CAF African Schools Football Championship with a hard-fought 1-0 win over South Africa.

The decisive moment came just before halftime when forward Ignatius Hagan, starting in place of Rockson Adjei, justified his inclusion by scoring the only goal of the game. Hagan, who emerged as top scorer in the WAFU B qualifiers held in Niger, displayed clinical finishing to hand Ghana their second win of the tournament.

The goal was crafted by the lively John Andor, whose brilliant solo run sliced through the South African defence. With composure and vision, he squared the ball into Hagan’s path, and the striker made no mistake from 12 yards, calmly slotting home past the goalkeeper.

Andor, a constant threat throughout the first half, could have opened the scoring earlier but was twice thwarted from close range, denied by brave defending and sharp goalkeeping.

After the break, the game turned into a more cautious affair. Ghana managed the tempo well and absorbed spells of pressure from the South African side, showing maturity and defensive discipline.

With the win, Ghana now sit in a strong position at the top of their group, having collected a maximum six points from their opening two fixtures. A positive result in their final group game against Algeria will guarantee them a place in the next round of the competition.

The Black Comets will look to maintain their momentum as they aim to capture continental glory and underline the strength of Ghana’s grassroots football development.
