Blay’s Penalty Propels Kotoko to the Top of the League Table
Asante Kotoko maintained their impressive comeback in the Ghana Premier League with a 1-0 win over Karela United at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Captain Justice Blay converted a second-half penalty, ensuring Kotoko secured all three points and climbed to the top of the league table.
The Porcupine Warriors’ resurgence has been remarkable, overcoming a difficult start to the season where they went five games without a win, including four consecutive losses.
Kotoko’s recent form, however, has been a testament to their resilience, with six wins in their last seven matches.
The breakthrough came in the 68th minute when Baba Yahaya was fouled in the box, and Justice Blay stepped up to calmly convert the spot-kick.
Karela, struggling at the foot of the table, offered little in attack, managing just one shot on target. Their lack of creativity in the final third continues to be a major concern.
The Porcupine Warriors will shift their focus to an away clash against Nsoatreman FC. Karela United, on the other hand, remain rooted at the bottom of the table and face an uphill battle when they host Berekum Chelsea in their next fixture.
