Bjorkegren Names 25-Player Provisional Black Queens Squad for WAFCON 2026
Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has announced a 25-player provisional squad as Ghana intensifies preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which will be hosted in Morocco later this month.
The squad features a blend of experienced internationals and emerging talents, reflecting the technical team’s determination to assemble a balanced side capable of competing for continental honours.
Leading the squad is captain Portia Boakye, who is joined by several established figures in the national team setup, including Grace Asantewaa, Cynthia Konlan, Alice Kusi, Evelyn Badu, Jennifer Cudjoe, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah and Princella Adubea.
Bjorkegren has also rewarded a number of standout performers from the Ghana Women’s Premier League. Osman Huzeima of Jonina Ladies and Ajegipina Zakaria of Ampem Darkoa Ladies have both earned places in the provisional squad following impressive displays at club level.
The selected players are expected to report to camp in the coming days as preparations gather pace ahead of the continental showpiece.

Ghana have been drawn in a competitive Group D, where they will begin their campaign against Cape Verde on July 29 before taking on Cameroon on August 2. The Black Queens will conclude the group stage with a fixture against Mali on August 6.
All three of Ghana’s group matches will be played at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca.
The Black Queens will be hoping to build momentum during their pre-tournament camp as they target a strong showing in Morocco and aim to make a deep run in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
