Carlos Queiroz Has Not Officially Resigned- Kofi Adams
Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has clarified that the government has not received any formal notice indicating that Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has resigned, despite the Portuguese tactician announcing his departure through a message posted on social media.
Queiroz, who was appointed on a short-term deal ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after succeeding Otto Addo, suggested in an online farewell that his time with Ghana had come to an end, saying he was leaving the role with pride following the tournament.
However, Adams says the process of ending such an appointment cannot be based on a social media statement alone.
Speaking to Joy News, the Minister stressed that no official correspondence has been submitted through the Ghana Football Association regarding the coach’s exit.
“We have not received any resignation letter from the FA to that effect, and I don’t take it that people resigned on social media. He wasn’t appointed on social media, so I don’t think that he resigned via social media,” Adams stated.
The Minister disclosed that although he has followed Ghana’s World Cup performances closely, he is yet to hold a formal meeting with Queiroz to assess the campaign. He expects the former Portugal and Iran coach to submit a comprehensive technical report before any decisions are made.
“We have all been watching the games, and so we all appreciate that. We have not had the opportunity to engage him to get a detailed report. That report will surely come,” he explained.
According to Adams, the report will provide a clearer picture of both the strengths and shortcomings of the Black Stars and help shape future plans for the national team.
He also agreed with Queiroz’s assessment that Ghana’s football challenges extend beyond performances on the field, highlighting the need for improvements at both the administrative and technical levels.
“And he’s right when he says it’s not just going to be on the pitch. There are off-pitch issues, and there are on-pitch issues also. I’m happy he has stated it clearly,” the Minister added.
Queiroz guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 2010 before the Black Stars’ campaign ended with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32. Attention now turns to preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as uncertainty remains over who will lead the national team.
