Asante Kotoko Target MTN FA Cup Glory Over League Title

Interim head coach of Asante Kotoko, Abdul Karim Zito, has revealed that the Porcupine Warriors are shifting their focus towards winning the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup rather than prioritising the Ghana Premier League title.

Kotoko, currently sitting fourth on the Premier League table with 51 points, are just five points behind league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars. Despite still being in contention for the domestic double, Coach Zito believes the FA Cup presents a more attainable target.

Speaking to the press after Kotoko’s goalless draw with archrivals Hearts of Oak on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Zito said the team’s energy will be channelled towards clinching the FA Cup title.

“When you look at the two sides of the coin, the FA Cup and the league, I think, if I’m not going to be selfish, we have to push more for the FA Cup. So we are going to push more for the FA Cup than the league. I have to be honest with you,” Zito stated.

The Porcupine Warriors have experienced a roller-coaster campaign, but their journey to the semi-finals of the FA Cup has revived hope of securing silverware this season.

Kotoko will face Berekum Chelsea in a high-stakes semi-final fixture this weekend.
