Antoine Semenyo has written his name into Ghanaian football history after becoming the first player from Ghana to earn a nomination for the Premier League Player of the Season Award.

The Ghana international was included on the shortlist following a remarkable 2025/26 campaign split between AFC Bournemouth and Manchester City FC.

Semenyo produced outstanding numbers across the season, registering 16 league goals and providing four assists in 35 appearances.

The 26-year-old began the campaign in excellent form at Bournemouth before completing a high-profile move to Manchester City during the January transfer window. Since arriving at the Etihad Stadium, the forward has quickly adapted to life under Pep Guardiola and established himself as an important figure in City’s attack.

His immediate influence was rewarded in February when he claimed the Premier League Player of the Month prize after contributing three goals and one assist in five league matches.

Semenyo’s nomination represents a landmark achievement for Ghanaian football, becoming the first player from the country to receive recognition for the award since it was introduced during the 1994/95 season.

Semenyo joins a strong list of contenders for this year’s award, including Erling Haaland, Bruno Fernandes and Declan Rice.
