Paul Amoah Promises Relay Medal After 100m Final Disappointment
Joseph Paul Amoah has vowed that Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team will fight for a podium finish at the ongoing African Senior Athletics Championships after narrowly missing out on medals in the individual sprint events.
Amoah and fellow Ghanaian sprinter Abdul-Rasheed Saminu both competed in the final of the men’s 100m race but fell short of the podium despite strong performances at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Amoah finished fourth in a time of 10.32 seconds while Saminu placed sixth in the highly competitive final.
Following the race, Amoah admitted frustration over missing out on an individual medal but quickly shifted focus toward the upcoming relay event, where he believes Ghana can bounce back strongly.
“I’m disappointed but I’m sure in the coming days we’re going to fix stuff. Relays is tomorrow, we’re going to miss Ben-Azamati but we’re hoping to let whatever team that we put together be a good one. We will assure Ghanaians that we will get to the finals and make sure that we get a medal,” Amoah said.
Ghana will head into the relay competition aiming to build on its reputation as one of Africa’s strongest sprint relay nations.
