Abednego Tetteh Announces Retirement from Heart of Lions After Criticizing Ghana Premier League
Former Ghana Premier League Golden Boot winner Abednego Tetteh has announced his retirement from Heart of Lions, days after making strong remarks about the state of the league and calling for its cancellation.
Tetteh, who previously played for Bibiani Gold Stars, sparked controversy by openly criticizing the Ghana Football Association (GFA), accusing the governing body of mismanaging the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League (GPL).
His comments came in the wake of the league’s temporary suspension following the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.
Tetteh confirmed his decision to step away from the club in a statement on his social media page.
“Please accept this letter as a formal notice of my retirement from Heart of Lions,” he wrote.

Following his remarks, Heart of Lions distanced themselves from his statements, emphasizing that his views did not represent the club’s official position on the GPL’s challenges or the FA’s management.
