Asante Kotoko suspend football activities until justice is served
In a stunning development, Asante Kotoko has announced its suspension of senior team activities following the tragic death of club supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong.
The club, in an official statement, confirmed that it will suspend all senior team activities indefinitely as it seeks justice for the slain fan and demands action to curb violence in Ghanaian football.
Kotoko’s management emphasized that their decision stems from the lack of security measures at league venues and the rising incidents of hooliganism.
The club insists that until concrete steps are taken by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and law enforcement agencies to prevent similar tragedies, they will not participate in league fixtures.

With Kotoko being the most successful club in GPL history with 25 titles, their withdrawal is a huge setback for the league. The absence of one of Ghana’s most prestigious clubs raises concerns about the future of the competition, fan safety, and the effectiveness of security at match venues.
