Ghanaian international, Aaron Essel has completed a transfer to Sacramento Republic FC, joining the American side from Scottish Premiership outfit St Johnstone FC.

The 20-year-old makes the switch to the United States’ second-tier league, with his registration subject to league and federation approval, as well as the processing of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

Republic FC head coach Neill Collins welcomed the addition of the energetic midfielder, highlighting the qualities he expects Essel to bring to the squad.

“Aaron brings energy, athleticism, and a strong work ethic to our team,” said Republic FC Head Coach Neill Collins. “His experience in other leagues and at the international level has set him up well to help us compete for trophies this year.”

Essel is no stranger to American soccer. During a previous stint in the U.S., he featured on loan for North Texas SC, where he impressed with consistent performances. In 2025, he made 17 appearances, scoring twice and providing one assist, while ranking second on the team with an impressive 86 percent passing accuracy.

The former Bechem United FC midfielder expressed excitement about the new chapter in his career.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining Republic FC this season. Sacramento has a passionate soccer community and a club with big ambitions, that’s exactly the environment I’ve been looking for,” said the Ghanaian. “I can’t wait to get on the pitch and give everything for the badge and the fans.”

Before moving to Scotland, Essel made 68 appearances for Bechem United, establishing himself as one of the club’s standout young talents. He has also earned senior international recognition with Ghana, making his debut in the Unity Cup against Nigeria in May 2025.

His arrival is expected to strengthen Sacramento’s midfield options as the club pushes for silverware in the upcoming campaign.
