Didi Dramani Backs Asare and Agbetsi for Black Stars World Cup Squad

Hearts of Oak head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani has thrown his weight behind goalkeepers Benjamin Asare and Solomon Agbetsi, urging their inclusion in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Dramani believes both shot-stoppers have shown enough quality and consistency to earn a place in the Black Stars setup, particularly given their experience at national level and recent club form.

Asare has been Ghana’s preferred option in goal since earning his debut in March 2025, playing a central role during the World Cup qualifying campaign. His progress, however, was briefly halted by injury after he picked up a knock in a friendly against South Korea last November, which limited his involvement at club level. The Hearts captain recently returned to action, featuring in the narrow 1–0 victory over Hohoe United.

During Asare’s absence, Solomon Agbetsi seized his opportunity at Hearts of Oak. Since making his debut against Swedru All Blacks on November 15, the former Dreams FC goalkeeper has delivered a series of assured performances, establishing himself as a reliable presence between the posts.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Dramani was emphatic about their credentials.
“Benjamin Asare and Solomon Agbetsi must be in Black Stars squad for the World Cup. Both of them have been at the Black Galaxies, and with how they are performing, both of them must be in the squad,” he said.

The Hearts coach added that competition for places should be welcomed, not feared.
“Hearts of Oak have been in a similar position before. Both of them are performing, and they must be there,” Dramani stressed.

With Hearts preparing for their Matchday 19 encounter against Dreams FC at the University of Ghana Stadium, Asare is expected to return to the starting line-up. Meanwhile, Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is set to unveil his final World Cup squad on June 1, with the goalkeeping department shaping up to be one of the most keenly contested areas.
