The FC Nordsjaelland midfielder found the net in Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Wales in Cardiff, producing a lively second-half cameo that further strengthened his case as one of the country’s most promising talents.

Yirenkyi showed sharp instincts for the decisive moment. After Ernest Nuamah’s effort struck the post, the midfielder reacted quickly to the loose ball and converted at the second attempt to register his maiden goal for the senior national team.

The goal capped another encouraging performance from the 20-year-old, who has continued to rise in prominence following his impressive introduction to international football during the 2025 Unity Cup.

His performances in Denmark and his displays in national team colours earned him a place in Ghana’s 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and Queiroz was particularly impressed by the impact he made after coming on as a substitute against Wales.

Speaking after the match, the Portuguese coach highlighted Yirenkyi’s qualities while stressing that the midfielder’s development is only beginning.

“I think he is a fine player with a great future. He is still young, he has a lot of things to learn…I think with more games, with more experience, he can become one of the best players of the Ghana National Team in the midfield. I think it—the midfield—is his position.”

Queiroz’s comments underline the growing belief within the Black Stars camp that Yirenkyi can become a key figure for Ghana in the years ahead.

Despite his age, the midfielder has already demonstrated maturity on the ball, tactical intelligence and the ability to influence matches in important moments. His versatility and composure have also made him an attractive option as Ghana prepares for the challenges of the World Cup.

With the tournament fast approaching, Yirenkyi’s goal against Wales may have strengthened his chances of playing a meaningful role for the Black Stars in North America.

For now, however, Queiroz remains focused on helping the youngster continue his development, convinced that greater experience and regular opportunities could transform him into one of Ghana’s standout midfielders in the future.
