Ghanaian sprinter Benjamin Azamati saw his quest in the 100m event at the World Athletics Championships campaign come to an early end after failing to progress from the men’s 100m heats on Friday.

Competing in Heat 5, the 26-year-old clocked 10.30 seconds to finish in sixth place, a time that was not enough to secure qualification for the semifinals.

The race was won by Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, who crossed the line in 10.07 seconds. Canada’s Olympic champion Andre De Grasse came in second, while Brandon Lindsey of the United States clinched third place to advance.

Azamati, one of Ghana’s leading track hopes, entered the championships with expectations of progressing to the later rounds but will now shift focus to upcoming competitions as he continues his bid to return to top form on the global stage.
