Head coach of the Ghana national under-17 football team, Prosper Narteh Ogum, believes Ghana face one of the toughest challenges in the group phase of the upcoming U-17 Africa Cup of Nations after being drawn in a demanding Group D lineup.

Ghana will come up against Senegal, Algeria and South Africa in a section many observers consider one of the most balanced groups in the competition.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Ogum acknowledged the quality within the group and warned against underestimating any opponent.

“It is definitely a very competitive group because all four teams deserve to be here and have quality. Senegal won the tournament in 2023, Algeria are very organised, and South Africa also has a strong football culture. But at this stage of the competition, there are no easy games,” Ogum told CAFOnline.

Despite the difficult draw, the Ghana coach expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness while emphasizing the need for focus and consistency throughout the tournament.

“We respect every opponent, but we also believe in our own quality and preparation. Our focus is to take one match at a time and give our best in every game.”

The Black Starlets are scheduled to begin their campaign tonight against Algeria at the Mohammed VI Football Academy, with kick-off set for 19:00 GMT.

Ghana will be aiming to negotiate the challenging group stage successfully as they pursue a strong showing at the continental youth championship.
