Asante Kotoko have moved swiftly to stabilise their technical bench following the resignation of head coach Abdul Karim Zito, appointing Prince Yaw Owusu as interim head coach with immediate effect.

In an official communication released on Monday night, the Kumasi-based club confirmed that Owusu will be assisted by Mohammed Hamza Obeng as they steer the Porcupine Warriors on a temporary basis while management searches for a substantive head coach.

“Coach Prince Yaw Owusu is to temporarily take charge of the technical team assisted by Mohammed Hamza Obeng,” the club announced in a statement posted on X.

The appointment comes just hours after Kotoko confirmed that Zito had stepped down from his role. The club acknowledged his departure and expressed gratitude for his contribution during his tenure.

“Abdul Karim Zito Kabutey has resigned from his role as the head coach of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club with immediate effect. Management has accepted the resignation, expressed its appreciation to the coach for his services and wished him the best for the future,” the statement added.

Owusu and Obeng face an immediate test, with their first assignment set to be the highly anticipated Super Clash against arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League next weekend, a fixture that could define the early direction of Kotoko’s post-Zito era.
