John Dramani Mahama has outlined an ambitious plan to construct six modern stadiums across the country as part of efforts to transform Ghana’s sporting infrastructure.

The announcement was made during his ‘Resetting Ghana Tour’ in the Bono Region, where the President detailed a phased approach to the project over the next two years.

According to Mahama, the first phase will see three stadiums built in 2026, with an additional three scheduled for completion in 2027. The initiative forms part of a broader vision to ensure that every region in Ghana has access to standard sporting facilities capable of supporting both competition and athlete development.

“We will build three new stadiums in 2026 and three more in 2027. We are currently in the design phase for the first three,” Mahama said.

The proposed infrastructure drive is expected to significantly improve the quality of venues available for domestic competitions, including the Ghana Premier League, while also creating better training environments for emerging talents across the country.

Beyond football, the initiative is aimed at positioning sports as a key pillar for national growth, with the potential to drive youth development, job creation, and community engagement.

The stadium construction plan aligns with earlier commitments by the Mahama administration to invest in sports as a catalyst for social and economic transformation, reinforcing the government’s long-term vision for the sector.
