Ouattara acknowledges Hearts of Oak’s defensive errors despite win
Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara has pledged to fix the defensive lapses that nearly cost his side a victory in their thrilling 3-2 win over Accra Lions.
Despite securing the three points, Ouattara expressed dissatisfaction with his team’s second-half performance, which saw them lose focus and concede twice before a dramatic comeback.
Hearts of Oak took the lead in the 37th minute when Mohammed Hussein scored a stunning header. However, a lack of concentration after the break allowed Accra Lions to equalize through Lucky Nwafor in the 52nd minute and then take the lead with Blessing Dankwa’s 73rd-minute strike.
Substitute Mawuli Wayo turned the tide for the Phobians, scoring twice in quick succession in the 81st and 84th minutes to secure a hard-fought victory.
Ouattara acknowledged the team’s defensive errors but emphasized the importance of the win.
“We lost concentration when we came from the dressing room,” Ouattara said in a post-match interview. “I don’t know what happened, but the important thing is that we took the three points.”
The coach also commended his substitutes, particularly Wayo, whose brace proved decisive.
The Phobians are sixth on the log with 25 points
