Former Medeama SC forward Jonathan Sowah has set his sights on a return to the Black Stars, expressing unwavering commitment to donning the national colours again.

Sowah, who currently plies his trade with Singida Black Stars in Tanzania, made his senior debut for Ghana in September 2023, featuring in a friendly against Liberia under former coach Chris Hughton. He provided an assist in that match, which ended in a 3-1 victory at the Accra Sports Stadium. However, he has since been absent from subsequent national team call-ups.

Now, the 25-year-old striker says he is determined to earn a second chance with the senior national team, despite what he described as earlier disappointments.

“I don’t believe there is any issue with why I have been out of the Black Stars,” Sowah told Asempa FM in a recent interview.

“There was a qualifier where I was expected to be part of the squad, but I was left out, which affected me. But I am always committed to playing for the Black Stars, regardless of what has happened.”

Sowah, who rose to prominence during his time at Danbort FC before joining Medeama, remains optimistic and resolute in his pursuit of a permanent spot in the national team setup.

“I am ready to compete to be the main striker of the Black Stars. I am still knocking at the doors of the Black Stars. I am not giving up,” he declared.

Drawing inspiration from Ghana’s all-time leading scorer Asamoah Gyan, Sowah said he hopes to one day emulate the iconic striker’s legacy.

“I want to replicate what Asamoah Gyan has done for Ghana,” he added.

Sowah has been in impressive form in his debut season with Singida Black Stars, scoring 13 goals in 13 appearances. His red-hot goal-scoring run has reignited calls for his inclusion in the national team ahead of upcoming international fixtures, including the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With his confidence high and ambition unwavering, Jonathan Sowah remains one of the Ghanaian strikers abroad to watch closely in the coming months.
