Otto Addo Urges Black Stars to Stay Focused Despite Topping World Cup Qualifying Group

Ghana head coach Otto Addo has cautioned his team against complacency, emphasizing that their position at the top of Group I in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers does not guarantee qualification.

Following their commanding 3-0 victory over Madagascar, the Black Stars now hold a five-point lead in the group. However, Addo insists the job is far from finished.

Speaking after the match, the Ghanaian tactician urged his players to remain focused, acknowledging that the race for World Cup qualification is still open.

“We are in a good position, but this is also a danger, and I’m already thinking about keeping our heads focused. The job is really not done. Maybe if Comoros win, we will just be three points ahead of them, and it is still a long way to go. We have to focus,” Addo said in his post-match interview.

Ghana’s dominant performances during the March international break—which included a 5-0 thrashing of Chad before their win over Madagascar—have significantly boosted their chances of securing a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

However, as Addo has emphasized, maintaining concentration and securing maximum points in the remaining fixtures will be crucial to sealing qualification.
