Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has expressed his delight after his side edged FC Samartex 1996 on penalties to book a spot in the quarter-finals of the MTN FA Cup.

The Round of 16 encounter at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa ended without goals after 90 minutes, with both teams locked in a tense and tactical battle that produced chances at both ends but no breakthrough.

In the shootout, the Yellow and Mauve showed greater composure, converting four of their kicks to seal a 4-2 victory and progress to the last eight of the competition.

Reflecting on the hard-fought win, Tanko praised his players for their resilience against a stubborn opponent. “It feels good qualifying to the quarterfinal of the FA Cup. Samartex is a very tough team to play but we are to earn qualification over them,” he said after the match.

Samartex struggled from the spot, missing two of their attempts, as Medeama capitalised to secure qualification and keep their cup ambitions alive.

The Tarkwa-based club will now face Division One League side Attram De Visser Academy in the quarter-finals, with the fixture date to be confirmed by the FA Cup Committee and the Ghana Football Association.

With momentum building, Medeama will be eager to continue their impressive run as the race for the FA Cup trophy intensifies.
