Otto Addo Slams Black Stars’ Second-Half Display After Austria Defeat

Otto Addo has openly criticised his team’s performance after the break, describing the second-half showing as unacceptable following Ghana’s heavy loss to Austria.

While the Black Stars showed glimpses of promise in the opening period, their level dropped significantly after halftime, allowing Austria to take full control of the contest.

Addo did not hold back in his assessment, insisting that the players must raise their intensity, especially with the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon.

“We have to do better. Second half was really, really not good enough at all. Everybody is playing for the World Cup, and we need to play with more intensity,” he said.

The Ghana coach also pointed to lapses in defensive discipline and overall execution without the ball, stressing that the team had already studied their opponents’ approach but failed to respond effectively on the pitch.

“I expect much, much more against the ball. We know what they were doing, and we have to do much better. The second half was really not good.”

The defeat has raised questions about the team’s readiness, with Addo now demanding a stronger response from his squad as they look to bounce back in their next international assignment.
