Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Dr. Randy Abbey, has disclosed that Ghana’s national team will undergo another round of technical enhancement as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

After the disappointment of missing out on qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Ghana Football Association (GFA) moved swiftly to strengthen the technical department with the inclusion of seasoned professionals such as Winfried Schäfer, Desmond Ofei, and Gregory De Grauwe.

With the World Cup — to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico — just months away, Dr. Abbey confirmed that additional reinforcements will be made to ensure the Black Stars are in the best possible shape for the global showpiece.

“From where I sit, we are contracted to Otto. I haven’t seen the employers of Otto Addo call for a change. What I know is that before every major competition, AFCON or World Cup, we strengthen the technical setup, scouting, and medical team,” Dr. Abbey explained to Sporty FM.

He elaborated that the upgrades will focus on improving key operational areas rather than overhauling the coaching staff.

“For every competition, we always beef up the technical team, whether it’s AFCON or the World Cup. In the areas of medical, technical, scouting, or video analysis, we bring in additional expertise.

“We are going to have that conversation to identify where our weaknesses are and how to improve. The goal is to ensure a better technical appreciation of what is before us,” he added.

Dr. Abbey further clarified that Otto Addo’s position as head coach remains secure, with the objective being to fortify the system around him.

“The focus is on improving the structure around him, not changing him. We want to ensure the team is better equipped technically and tactically for the challenge ahead,” he emphasized.

The Black Stars will learn their group-stage opponents for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on December 5, as Ghana targets a strong showing in what will be their fifth appearance at the tournament.
