Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has declared his intention to lead Ghana to victory when they take on Nigeria in the semifinal of the 2025 Unity Cup on Thursday evening at the Gtech Community Stadium in London.

The highly anticipated West African showdown marks Ghana’s return to action following back-to-back wins over Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

With momentum on their side, the Black Stars are eager to maintain their winning streak.

Speaking to the media ahead of the clash, Addo stressed the competitive significance of the fixture, despite its designation as a friendly tournament.

“I think everyone knows what it’s about. Surely, it’s a friendly game, but it’s not really a friendly game,” he stated. “We know what it’s about, and we want our people to be proud of us. We want our people to talk from a certain perspective, and surely, it’s always about who has the better team.”

Addo acknowledged the closeness in quality between the two sides but believes Ghana has what it takes to edge the contest.

“And sometimes margins can decide the outcome of the game. I think normally, to be honest, we are on the same level. But yeah, we’re hoping that we will win, hoping that we’ll be successful. It’s going to be tough, but I’m sure we can do it,” he added.

The match against Nigeria serves not only as a test of Ghana’s team chemistry and depth but also as an opportunity for fringe players to prove themselves, especially with several regulars missing due to minor injuries.

The winner of Thursday’s semifinal will progress to the final of the four-nation tournament on Saturday, May 31, where they will face  Jamaica. The losing sides will battle for third place on the same day.
