Fatawu Issahaku Relishes Black Stars Return After Long Injury Layoff
Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has expressed his delight after making a long-awaited return to the Black Stars, following several months on the sidelines due to a serious knee injury.
The talented 21-year-old endured a difficult spell after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola in November last year — a setback that ruled him out of much of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
Issahaku also missed a large portion of Leicester City’s Premier League campaign last season but has since made a strong comeback, rediscovering his form with three goals already this season in the English Championship.
Speaking to teammate Alidu Seidu, who also returned from a similar injury, the Ghanaian attacker shared his joy and relief at being back on the pitch.
“It’s good that you are asking me this question,” Issahaku said. “You know how it feels coming from an ACL injury, you were also a victim, so it is a good team. It feels amazing getting back, running again, playing football and enjoying it again.”
The winger further expressed his excitement about rejoining the national team setup after months of recovery and rehabilitation.
“It is good getting back with the team again,” he added.
Issahaku’s return is a major boost for coach Otto Addo, who continues to build a strong, attack-minded squad for Ghana’s decisive World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros. His pace, creativity, and goal-scoring threat are expected to play a vital role as the Black Stars push for qualification to the 2026 World Cup in USA, Canada, and Mexico.
