My Move to Saudi Arabia was to Change Perceptions — Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has doubled down on his claims that the Saudi Pro League is improving, insisting his transfer was meant to alter perspectives on football in the region.

The Portuguese superstar left Manchester United for Al Nassr last season and says it was a “good move.”

Speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards, Ronaldo said he wanted to “give a chance to another country” through showcasing his talent and passion.

“Why not change mentalities?” he asked rhetorically. “I’m capable of doing that.”

Ronaldo believes the Saudi league can become one of the world’s top three competitions.

He pointed to the “step by step” progress, with numerous high-profile players and staff joining clubs in the kingdom.

The 39-year-old thinks his transfer kickstarted a “domino effect” that is elevating standards.

Ronaldo has directly contributed with 20 goals in 18 games for Al Nassr this term.

He also renewed his assertion that Saudi Arabia’s developing league is better than France’s Ligue 1 right now.

Ronaldo argued only Paris Saint-Germain and maybe Marseille and Lyon can compete, whereas competition is fiercer across the board in Saudi Arabia.
