Mansfield Town’s manager, Nigel Clough, expressed both anger and regret following a frustrating 3-1 defeat to Bolton Wanderers.

The loss, which unfolded after a red card for Ghanaian midfielder Hiram Boateng, saw Mansfield relinquish a 1-0 lead and miss out on what had appeared to be a certain victory.

Boateng had given the Stags the advantage in the 34th minute, a goal that seemed to set them on course for three valuable points.

However, his dismissal in the 70th minute, following two yellow cards, turned the tide of the match, as Bolton capitalized with three quick goals in a 10-minute blitz.

“That was three points thrown away,” Clough admitted, his frustration palpable.

“Hiram knows better than to get involved like that, but I’m also at fault. I should’ve taken him off after the first yellow. It’s a mistake I won’t make again.”

Clough highlighted the team’s strong performance prior to the red card and expressed disappointment at how quickly things unravelled.

“Up until then, we were in control, disciplined, and creating chances. The sending-off changed everything,” he said.

Despite the defeat, Clough remained resolute. “It’s a tough lesson for all of us, but we’ll learn from this. The season isn’t over, and we’ll come back stronger.”
