Kumasi City Marathon Set for Official Launch on March 25
The maiden edition of the Kumasi City Marathon is set to be officially launched on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, as preparations begin for a major road race expected to attract runners and sports enthusiasts from across the country.
The launch ceremony will take place at SG Mall in Kumasi at 2:00 pm, where organisers will unveil key details of the marathon, including race categories, routes, and participation guidelines.
The event is being organised by Nextwave Proevents and aims to position Kumasi as a major destination for road racing and sports tourism.
This year’s marathon will run under the theme “Run the Heart of Ghana,” highlighting the city’s cultural significance while promoting fitness, wellness, and community participation through sport.
According to the organisers, the main marathon event is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, 2026, when athletes, recreational runners, and fitness enthusiasts are expected to take to the streets of Kumasi for the historic first edition of the race.
The initiative is expected to contribute to sports development while also boosting tourism and local economic activity in the Ashanti regional capital.
