Evelyn Nsiah Asare Condemns Misconceptions About Women in Football
Chief Executive Officer of Hasaacas Ladies, Evelyn Nsiah Asare Owusu, has strongly pushed back against widespread misconceptions surrounding women in leadership within the football space, insisting that such views are harmful and unfounded.
Her comments come at a time when women across various sectors in Ghana are continuing to fight for equal recognition and opportunities, particularly in traditionally male-dominated fields like football.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Sportsnite program, the experienced football administrator lamented the stereotype that women in football rise to prominence through inappropriate means rather than merit and hard work.
“People think that we, the women in football, sleep with men to earn our positions — but they’ve got it all wrong. We have worked tirelessly to get to where we are today,” Evelyn Nsiah Asare stated emphatically.
Evelyn Nsiah Asare, who is the Vice President for Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has overseen a transformative era at Hasaacas Ladies — one of the most successful women’s football clubs in Ghana — emphasized that her achievements and those of other women in the industry are the result of years of dedication, resilience, and strategic thinking.
“We are here on merit. I have invested my life, time, and resources into the game. Nobody handed me anything,” she added.
Under her leadership, Hasaacas Ladies have won multiple titles including the Ghana Women’s Premier League and represented Ghana in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Her words have resonated across the sports community, sparking important conversations about gender, perception, and fairness in Ghanaian football.
