Leicester City’s 2025/26 Carabao Cup campaign came to an abrupt end following a 3-2 penalty shootout defeat to Huddersfield Town, with Ghana captain Jordan Ayew missing a crucial spot-kick in the deciding stages.

The match at the John Smith’s Stadium ended 2-2 after regulation time, but Ayew’s miss — the Foxes’ first in the shootout — proved decisive as Huddersfield converted their kicks to secure progression.

Leicester, buoyed by a 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday in their EFL Championship opener, twice surrendered their lead during normal time, allowing the home side to force penalties.

Ayew, widely recognised for his composure from the spot, was introduced in the 82nd minute for Patson Daka and played just nine minutes before the shootout. In his short stint, the 32-year-old recorded six touches, completed three of four passes, and saw one attempt miss the target.

Fellow Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku remained an unused substitute for the Foxes.
