Ghanaian striker Samuel Obeng Gyabaa has taken the next step in his Spanish career after completing a winter transfer to La Liga 2 side Albacete Balompié.

The forward has committed to the club until June 2027, signing a deal that covers the remainder of the current campaign and an additional season. His arrival is expected to strengthen Albacete’s attacking options with experience, strength, and proven knowledge of Spain’s second tier.

Obeng brings a wealth of familiarity with LALIGA Hypermotion, having made more than 170 appearances in the division. His career in Spain began at youth level with Getafe CF before he progressed through several senior teams within Catalan football.

A turning point came in 2018 when he joined CD Calahorra in the third tier, scoring seven goals in 28 appearances. That form earned him a move to Real Oviedo the following summer, where he quickly transitioned from the reserve setup into the first team.

During three and a half seasons at Oviedo, Obeng became a regular figure, featuring in 116 competitive matches and finding the net 15 times. He later continued his La Liga 2 journey with SD Huesca, registering 11 goals in 56 appearances over a season and a half.

The striker’s recent career has also taken him beyond Spain, with spells at Casa Pia in Portugal’s top flight and Wydad AC in Morocco, before he returned to Spain last summer to join AD Ceuta.

Obeng is already settling into his new surroundings, training under head coach Alberto González at the Ciudad Deportiva Andrés Iniesta. The Ghanaian forward is pushing to be ready for selection as Albacete prepare for their upcoming Copa del Rey fixture.
