Daniel Afriyie Barnieh Parts Ways with FC Zurich After Mutual Agreement

Ghanaian forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has officially parted ways with Swiss side FC Zurich following a mutual termination of his contract, the club announced on their website.

The 23-year-old former Hearts of Oak talisman joined Zurich in January 2023, marking his first move to Europe after an impressive domestic and international stint in Ghana. During his two-and-a-half-year stay in Zurich, Afriyie Barnieh made 50 competitive appearances, netting two goals and registering four assists for the senior team.

“FC Zurich announces that Ghanaian striker Daniel Afriyie is leaving the city club. His contract has been terminated by mutual consent. Daniel Afriyie came to Zurich from his native Ghana in January 2023,” the club stated in an official release.

“In his two and a half years at FC Zurich, he made 50 competitive appearances for the first team, scoring two goals and providing four assists.”

The Swiss outfit also extended its gratitude to the Ghanaian international and wished him success in his next chapter.

Barnieh rose to prominence in Ghana with Accra Hearts of Oak, where he played a pivotal role in helping the Phobians clinch the Ghana Premier League title and the MTN FA Cup. He also starred for Ghana at youth level, captaining the Black Satellites to glory in the 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and later earning a place in the Black Stars squad.
