Swiss Super League side FC Basel has confirmed that Ghanaian midfielder Emmanuel Essiam will join Swiss second-division club FC Aarau on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old midfielder has struggled for regular playing time at Basel this season, largely due to injury setbacks. To aid his development and provide him with consistent match action, Basel has arranged for Essiam to play with Aarau, offering him a chance to sharpen his skills and regain form.

The loan deal does not include a purchase option, as Essiam remains under contract with Basel until 2028.

Essiam initially joined Basel in early 2022 and had a loan stint with Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy from September 2023 to January 2024. His move to Aarau is regarded as another important step in his progression as a player.

Aarau’s sports director, Elsad Zverotic, expressed his excitement about the new addition, praising Essiam’s abilities and the positive impact he is expected to make.

“Emmanuel is a dynamic, strong, box-to-box midfielder. He will strengthen our midfield with his footballing qualities in the second half of the season,” Zverotic noted. “At the same time, we can immediately fill the gap left by Milot Avdyli’s departure.”

This loan provides Essiam with a valuable opportunity to build momentum and gain experience in competitive matches, paving the way for a stronger return to Basel.
